Beautiful Bookmarks transforms your Chrome new tab page into a productivity dashboard with bookmark management, weather, tasks, an AI prompt builder, and more.
After installing Beautiful Bookmarks from the Chrome Web Store:
Pin the extension – Click the puzzle piece icon in Chrome's toolbar, then click the pin icon next to Beautiful Bookmarks for quick access.
Open a new tab – Your new tab page is now the Beautiful Bookmarks dashboard.
Click the extension icon – Opens the popup for adding and managing bookmarks.
Tip: The extension comes with sample bookmarks to help you get started. You can edit or delete them at any time.

The dashboard features an animated wave background and supports both dark and light themes.
The weather widget shows real-time conditions for your location using the Open-Meteo API.

Click the gear icon (⚙️) at the bottom of the weather widget.
Enter your city name or ZIP code in the location field.
Select your preferred temperature unit (°F or °C).
Click Save Changes.

Click the X button in the top corner to collapse the weather widget. Click the weather icon to expand it again.

Type your task in the "Add a new task..." input field.
Press Enter to add it.
Complete a task – Click the checkbox next to the task to mark it as done.
Delete a task – Hover over a task and click the delete button.
Edit a task – Click on the task text to edit it inline.
The header shows a counter (e.g., "3 left") indicating the number of incomplete tasks.
To synchronize your tasks with Google Tasks:
Click Settings at the bottom of the Tasks widget.
Enable "Sync with Google Tasks" checkbox.
Click "Authenticate with Google" and sign in with your Google account.
Once authenticated, click "Sync Now" to perform an initial sync.

The sync status indicator shows:
Green dot – Successfully synced
Last sync time – When the last sync occurred
Tip: Click the "Open Google Tasks" link to view your tasks in Google's web interface.
Toggle "Show Completed Tasks" in settings to show or hide finished tasks.
Click the expand icon (↗) in the Tasks header to enter a fullscreen Bento dashboard view for focused task management.

The wizard helps you construct well-structured prompts with six configurable dropdowns:

Select your desired options from the wizard dropdowns.
Click "Build Prompt from Wizard" to auto-generate a prompt in the textarea.
Optionally edit or add your own context to the generated prompt.
Click any of the service buttons to open the AI service with your prompt:
ChatGPT – Opens ChatGPT with your prompt pre-loaded
Gemini – Opens Google Gemini (use Ctrl+V to paste)
Claude – Opens Claude with your prompt
Perplexity – Opens Perplexity with your prompt
Copilot – Opens Microsoft Copilot (use Ctrl+V to paste)
Grok – Opens Grok with your prompt
Note: Some services (Gemini, Copilot) don't support URL-based prompts. For these, your prompt is copied to the clipboard – just press Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V on Mac) to paste it.

The right panel of the AI widget contains a built-in guide on prompt engineering strategies, including the Clarification strategy, Role-Context-Task framework, Few-Shot examples, and Chain of Thought reasoning.
Click the expand icon (↗) in the top-right corner to expand the AI widget to fullscreen for a larger workspace.
The circular navigation menu provides quick access to your bookmarks in an elegant ring layout.

Hover over the circular nav toggle (dot icon) in the corner to expand the ring.
Click any bookmark in the ring to open it.
Drag the toggle to reposition it anywhere on the screen.
Click the gear icon (⚙️) to open category settings:
Select a category to display bookmarks from a specific group.
Search bookmarks to quickly find and add shortcuts.
Use the pagination arrows (◀ ▶) when you have more than 12 bookmarks in a category.

To access your full bookmark library from the new tab:
Click the "Click Here to access bookmarks" button at the bottom of the dashboard.
The bookmarks screen slides in as an overlay.
Browse, search, and manage your bookmarks.
Click outside or press the close button to return to the dashboard.

The popup provides quick access to:

Click the Beautiful Bookmarks icon in the toolbar.
The name and URL of the current page are auto-filled.
Enter or select a group name (e.g., "Work", "News", "Shopping").
Click "+ Add Current Page".

When typing a group name, existing groups appear as suggestions. Select an existing group to keep bookmarks organized, or type a new name to create a new group.
Toggle between two view modes using the icons in the bookmark section header:
Grid view (default) – Shows bookmarks as icon tiles grouped by category
List view – Shows bookmarks in a compact list format

Click the edit icon on any bookmark.
Modify the name, group, URL, or icon.
Save your changes.
Beautiful Bookmarks includes 45 custom SVG icons. When editing a bookmark, click the icon selector to choose from categories like documents, folders, stars, arrows, and more.
Click the delete icon on any bookmark and confirm the deletion.
Use the search bar in the popup or full page view to filter bookmarks by name across all groups.
For bulk editing, open the spreadsheet editor:
Open the popup and click "Edit in Sheet" under Data Management.
A table editor opens with columns for Icon, Name, Group, and URL.
Edit any cell by clicking on it.
Reorder groups using drag handles.
Add new rows with the add button.
Click Save when done, or Discard to cancel changes.

An unsaved changes indicator appears when you have pending modifications.
For a larger workspace, click "Full Page View" in the popup's Data Management section. This opens a dedicated full-page interface with:

Open the popup and click "Export CSV".
A .csv file downloads containing all your bookmarks.
Open it in Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet app.
Click "Import CSV" in the popup.
Select a CSV file with columns: name, group, url, icon.
Your bookmarks are updated from the imported file.
Tip: Export your bookmarks periodically as a backup. You can also enhance your bookmark CSV with AI tools or share it with others.
Beautiful Bookmarks can sync with Chrome's native bookmark system in both directions.
Click "Sync to Chrome" to push your Beautiful Bookmarks into Chrome's native bookmarks bar and folders. Groups become folders.
Click "Sync from Chrome" to import your existing Chrome bookmarks into Beautiful Bookmarks. This is a great way to get started if you already have a large Chrome bookmark library.
Organize your bookmarks into Chrome tab groups:
Click "Create Tab Groups" in the popup.
Each bookmark group opens as a color-coded Chrome tab group.
All bookmarks in that group open as tabs within the group.
This is useful for project-based workflows where you want to open all related sites at once.
If you have multiple Chrome windows open, click the consolidation button (□ icon) in the top-left corner of the new tab page to merge all windows into one.
Beautiful Bookmarks supports dark and light themes:
Dark theme (default) – Easy on the eyes with a dark background
Light theme – Bright, clean interface
Toggle the theme by clicking the moon/sun icon in the top-right corner of either the new tab page or the popup.

Your theme preference is saved and persists across sessions.
Q: Why isn't the weather loading?
Make sure you've set your location in the weather widget settings (click the gear icon). Enter a valid city name or ZIP code and click Save Changes.
Q: How do I change my weather location?
Click the gear icon (⚙️) at the bottom of the weather widget, enter your new city or ZIP code, and click Save Changes.
Q: Can I use this with Google Tasks?
Yes! Open the Tasks widget settings, enable "Sync with Google Tasks", authenticate with your Google account, and click "Sync Now".
Q: Where are my bookmarks stored?
Bookmarks are stored in Chrome's local extension storage. Use Export CSV to create backups. You can also sync them to Chrome's native bookmarks.
Q: I accidentally deleted a bookmark. Can I recover it?
If you previously exported your bookmarks as CSV, you can import that file to restore them. Otherwise, check Chrome's native bookmarks if you used "Sync to Chrome" previously.
Q: The new tab page isn't showing Beautiful Bookmarks.
Make sure the extension is enabled in chrome://extensions. Some other extensions may also override the new tab page – disable any conflicting ones.
Q: How do I share my bookmarks with someone?
Export your bookmarks as CSV and share the file. The recipient can import it into their own Beautiful Bookmarks extension.
